1. Who we are
Triton 3 Studio, LLC, {{address}}, is responsible for your personal data in Japan for Less (the app and this website). Contact: support@japan4less.com.
2. The short version
- No account. We never ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Your trip, your receipts and your refund details stay on your phone. They are never sent to us.
- The app sends us anonymous usage counts and crash reports so we can fix and improve it. These use a random ID that is not linked to you.
- We don’t sell data, and we never take a cut of your tax refund.
- In the web app only, and only if you tap Allow, our partner network Travelpayouts uses cookies to see which bookings came through our links. You can change this in Settings.
3. What stays on your phone

We can’t see, recover or delete this data: it never reaches us. Deleting the app deletes it.
In the web app (app.japan4less.com), the same data is kept in your browser’s storage on your device, except the refund details card: a browser isn’t secure enough for a passport number, so the web app never saves it. Clearing your browser data, or Settings → Delete everything on this device, deletes it. Settings → Delete everything on this device works in the store apps too.
4. What we collect and why

Usage events never include shop names you type, amounts tied to you, your name, passport or card details. We don’t collect sensitive data, precise location or contacts. The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The web app loads partner link tracking only after you tap Allow.

Travelpayouts uses this data under its own privacy policy and cookie policy.
We don’t sell personal data, and we don’t share it for advertising without your consent. We share data if the law requires it, or with a buyer if Japan for Less is sold, under this policy.
Offers and refund companies. When you tap an offer (an eSIM, card or insurance) or a refund company’s link, you leave our app for their website. What you give them is covered by their privacy policy, not ours. We are paid a commission on some offers; we learn that a purchase happened, not who made it.
6. Where your data is stored and transferred
Analytics data is stored in the EU. Crash reports and website requests may be processed in the USA and other countries where our providers operate. When data moves to another country, we use the safeguards that law requires (see the regional sections).
7. Cookies and similar tools
The website uses no cookies, tags or trackers. In the web app, partner link tracking from Travelpayouts (§5) loads only after you tap Allow on the prompt. It sets Travelpayouts’ cookies and browser storage. If you tap No thanks, or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, it never loads. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Partner link tracking; turning it off stops it at once. The app uses the PostHog and Sentry SDKs listed above. They store only the random install ID on your phone.
The web app keeps your trip in your browser’s storage (local storage) on your device only. It’s needed for the app to work, is never sent to us, and isn’t used for tracking.
8. Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to or restrict some uses, by writing to support@japan4less.com. Because the install ID is not linked to you, we usually can’t find your data unless you send us the ID. Deleting and reinstalling the app gives you a new ID. We answer within the time the law sets (30 days or less as a rule) and won’t treat you differently for asking.
9. Security
We protect data with access control, encryption in transit and at rest, and least-privilege access. Your refund details card is kept in your phone’s secure storage and is not backed up. If a breach affects you, we’ll tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
10. Children
Japan for Less is not for children under 13 (or the higher age set where you live). If we learn we’ve collected a child’s data without valid consent, we delete it.
11. Changes
We’ll post changes with a new effective date and tell you about material changes in the app in advance.
Regional sections
United States
- California (CalOPPA, CCPA/CPRA where applicable): categories collected and their sources are in §4. We don’t sell personal information. Partner link tracking in the web app (§5, §7) may count as “sharing” under the CCPA, so it runs only if you opt in, and we treat a Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out. You can opt out at any time in Settings → Partner link tracking. You can exercise your rights through an authorized agent.
- Other states with comprehensive privacy laws: the same rights apply where those laws cover us.
EU / EEA and UK (GDPR, UK GDPR)
- Legal bases are in §4. You can object to processing based on legitimate interest at any time.
- Transfers outside the EEA/UK use adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses.
- You can complain to your local data protection authority.
Japan (個人情報保護法 / APPI)
- Purpose of use (利用目的): §4.
- Provision to third parties (第三者提供): only with consent or where the law allows. Service providers (委託先) are supervised.
- Provision to third parties in other countries: the USA and the EU, under the safeguards in §6.
- Security measures (安全管理措置): §9.
- Requests for disclosure, correction, suspension of use or deletion: support@japan4less.com.
- External transmission (外部送信): what the app sends to third parties, and the web app’s partner link tracking (sent only with your consent), are listed in §5 and §7.
China (mainland) (个人信息保护法 / PIPL)
- Japan for Less is not offered in mainland app stores. Visitors from mainland China use it while travelling in Japan.
- We collect no sensitive personal information. Data is processed outside mainland China as described in §5 and §6.
- Minors under 14 need a guardian’s consent.
Product annex
- Passport details. The refund details card exists only to help you fill each shop’s or refund company’s form. We never receive it. You enter it on the refund company’s form yourself.
- Refunds are paid by the shop or its refund company, not by us. We never handle your money.
